HSCI 130 - Electrocardiography and Cardiac Monitoring Technician Credits: 3 In this course, students will learn the anatomy and physiology of the Cardiovascular system, the physiological steps of the cardiac cycle, ECG interpretation, identification and elimination of artifacts, and identifying basic arrhythmia. In the laboratory setting, students will learn the fundamentals of Electrocardiography, Holter, and Telemetry monitoring. Additionally, students will learn how to connect patients to the Central monitoring station, troubleshoot ECG machine issues and telemetry unit technical problems, and keep track of the normal functioning of monitors. Students learn to recognize basic normal sinus rhythm and the most common abnormal cardiac arrhythmias in realtime. Upon successful course completion, students will be eligible to sit for the National EKG Certification exam.Emphasis will be placed on proper patient preparation for accurate testing results and equipment maintenance. Students also will be trained to acquire the American Heart Associations Healthcare Provider CPR/AED card for the Health Care professionals. Lab fee required
