Exercise Science, A.S.

The Associate of Science Degree in Exercise Science is designed to prepare students for transfer to a four-year college or university degree program in exercise science. This program’s hands-on focused curriculum is based on the exercise science competencies of the American College of Sports Medicine and will teach students the skills and knowledge needed to perform fitness assessments, design individualized exercise programs, evaluate human movement, and make nutritional recommendations. In addition, a degree in exercise science will serve as a solid foundation for students seeking admission into athletic training, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or sports medicine degree programs.

Upon completion of this program, graduates will be able to:

  • Examine anatomy and exercise physiology concepts as applied to human movement in different types of physical activity and sport.
  • Conduct health and fitness assessments using valid and reliable test protocols.
  • Design individualized exercise prescriptions with appropriate exercise progression.
  • Create scientific reports using technical writing skills, graphs, charts, tables, diagrams, and peer-reviewed scientific literature.
  • Demonstrate techniques reflective of professional best practices in the field of exercise science.
